Flyfishing in Louisiana video

Cyberangler Jan on some nice redfish

I had Jan Maizler from cyberangler.com in the boat again today and we hammered the fish again. We fished till 12:45, landed 10 redfish up to 22 pounds and a nice black drum that weighed 26 pounds. We fished all spinning rods today and used purple and yellow paddle tail plastic jigs and a jig head. We sight fished everything we threw to which makes it a blast. We had a few shots at redfish backing down shorelines with their eyeballs out of the water they were so shallow. The fishing is on fire right now and will continue to get better as we get consistent cold fronts. Tight lines!

Had Ron from Manhattan on the boat today. We had decent conditions and a ton of fish. We put a few 5-10 pound red drum in the boat and ended the day with a hog, 28 pound redfish on fly.

Pre Thanksgiving fishing

I had three generations of Dini’s on the boat the day before turkey day. We had a great time and caught a few nice redfish and trout.

Killer red fishing

The past two days were incredible on the Louisiana marsh. I had Travis from Atlanta the first day and Hunter the 2nd day. Travis wanted to go for some big guys so our plan was to fish big fish water. I can’t tell you how many 5-10 pound fish we didn’t even cast to becaue we didn’t want waste time fighting them and have a monster swim by the boat. We ended up landing 15 fish with the biggest being 19 pounds and we had our shots at 30 pounders.
Hunter and I went out today and got after it. We landed a 22 pound redfish and a 31 pounder on fly. We also had 4 double headers on smaller fish in the 8-10 pound range and had a few other shots at some giant redfish. The Louisiana fishing is on fire right now,Tight lines!

Shy redfish

We had great weather again today and I had Taku and Raneigh in the boat from New York. Both of them great fly casters and they were both members of the Golden Gate fly casters club when they lived in San Francisco. The fishing was a little tougher today maybe due to the fron that will be coming through tonight. There weren’t as many fish on the flats and the redfish that were there were nipping at the fly and a little spooky, the fish wern’t acting like Louisiana redfish today. We still managed to get a few shots at some monster redfish in the 25- 30 pound range and Raneigh landed a nice 19 pound fish on fly as well as a few other 8-10 pound fish. Even though the fishing was slow we still had a great time out on the water. Tight Lines!

Incredible redfishing

What a great day to fish the Louisiana Marsh. Today I had the pleasure to guide Roger and his good friend John. We landed a 19, 22, 28, and 35 pound redfish and we topped it off by fishing a shallow pond that had crawlers all over it so we got out of the boat and laid the hammer down. It’s starting to go off here in the marsh and these are the kind of days we look forward to.

Great weather on the Louisiana Marsh

Wow, the weather has been incredible the past two days out on the Louisiana marsh. I had Ted and Jason from Dallas in the boat the past two days and we got tons of shots. The first day Ted landed 12 redfish on fly with most of the fish ranging from 8-12 pounds. After he got a few nice fish in the boat we went to look for some bigger fish in a few places that I have been finding them over the past week. We pulled onto the flat and right away we started getting shots at monster redfish from 25-35 pounds. The redfish were coming in in pairs and cruising pretty fast and seemed to be feeding on mullet. Ted was throwing a 10 wt. Sage Z-Axis and had one of my big fish flies on. We missed the first few shots but it didn’t take long for Ted to get right with his first monster Louisiana redfish. The fish came in at about 11 o’clock from the bow of the boat. Ted made two quick false casts and laid a great shot out about 50 feet and lead the fish perfectly. As soon as the fly hit the water and sank the redfish pounced on it and the game was on. Ted faught the fish for about 15 minutes and when he got the fish close to the boat a bigger fish followed him in that was an easy 40 pounder. When he got him in the fished weighed 32 pounds on the certified Boga Grip, an incredible fish on fly! We got a few more shots before the sun got too low to see but didn’t get right with another big boy. Louisiana has an incredible sight fishery and this is the kind of fish we go for from November – March. Back at it again tomorrow, Tight Lines!

BoldWater and Saltyshores

We snuck a half day trip in before Derek Redwine from BoldWater and Sam Root from Saltyshores had to be at the airport.

After a big hearty breakfast at Penny’s and picking up our Po Boys for lunch we were off to the Louisiana Marsh. The wind was still honking pretty good but we persevered. Both Derek and Sam got some nice redfish on fly. Sam shot a lot of incredible video and pictures. I’m excited to see how it comes out.

Before it was time to pack it in and get these guys to the airport Derek said he would pole me up the next bay. It didn’t take long to find a victim, at first I thought it was a decent redfish siting on the point. As I fired off the fly a big tail hit the surface, and a couple strips and an enormous Black Drum face engulfed my fly. I think Sam got the bite on video. After that we took some pictures and headed for the barn.

Derek and Sam said the check in at the airport was quick and painless. The next few days it looks like I will have some good weather for my charters.

If you want to hit up some Big Louisiana redfish call me, the fishing will continue to get bigger and better for the next few months and I still have some openings.

BoldWater and Saltyshores in Louisiana

Today I fished with Derek Redwine from BoldWater and Sam Root from Saltyshores. We were suppose to make a trip of it yesterday but the passing of hurricane Ida did not allow it. Today I’m afraid was not much better with winds in excess of 25 miles per hour. We fished in the IPB which did remarkably well in the gail force winds a bit wet but to be expected in these conditions. It took us awhile to find some fish do to the fact the water was so dirty and the wind kept everything stirred up. We managed quite a few redfish and even a few unexpected events.  Derek caught a redfish literally under the bow of the boat after thinking the red had refused his first offering. Later Sam throwing his new Loop Opti 9 wt. caught a nice double header with Derek. I played assist on a couple  multiple hooks ups today as well. All and all we had a great trip looking forward to another one tomorrow.
