Red fish are getting into their Fall patterns!

I have to admit that the fishing has been a bit tough the past few days due to the strong southeast winds we have been getting. The water has been extremely high spreading the fish out and making it tough to fly fish. The water was down a bit today and really clean as it dropped out of the grass and the red fish were finally showing. We caught dome nice fish up in the teen’s today, had multiple double headers and it was only a half day on the water. With the first cold front starting to come though in the next few days things should really pick up and the fish should get into there fall patterns.

September Red Fishing!

The red fishing in September continues to be on fire! The fish have been schooled up going from pond to pond eating all the bait in each pond. Once they are done cleaning out an area of all the bait, they move a short distance to the next body of water that is holding bait. It’s pretty cool to watch a school of 15-20 fish pound a school of mullet. We have even mixed in a few nice size marsh bass as well. Tight Lines!

This video was entered into the Drake Film awards and won best story and cinematography. We did what we needed to do to promote the fishery and show people that the marsh is fishing awesome despite all the bad press is got on the news. The oil spill was a bad situation but the marsh has over come it and the fishing is on fire. Enjoy!

North Platte Lodge before the Drake Film Awards!

Well I was invited to fish the North Platte River in Alcova Wyoming with my good friend Trent Tatum who owns the North Platte Lodge and Grey Reef Fly Shop. I had a few days to fish before I had to be in Denver for The Drake Film Awards which I had a video submitted in and I was going to take advantage of it. Trent said the hopper fishing was going off and as many people know the North Platte is know for some monster fish. We floated the river for two days and caught some really nice fish, when you go to the North Platte an average fish is 18-20 inches which in the trout world is huge. We caught a ton of those and also put some mid 20′s inch fish in the boat all on hoppers and streamers which was really cool because you get to watch every take! Trent has a beautiful lodge that sleeps 8 and has 8-10 guides fishing for him throughout the year. Alcova is 30 miles outside of Casper which is where you can fly into or you can also fly into Denver and drive up. Trent runs a tight ship over there along with his wife Kathryn and there awesome yellow lab Ally. It is a great place to relax and catch some truely monster Rainbow’s, brown’s, cut throats and cutbows. Tight Lines!

The BEST company at the lodge Ally! Sorry Trent

The Lodge

North end of the Biloxi Marsh

We got into these guys all day long. Had some great guys in the boat Tommy Sr. and Tommy Jr. We had a blast throwing at these fishing pushing down the shorelines with their backs out of the water. We had 1 shot at a 30+ pound red and a few shots at some 30+ pound Black Drum. As we start to get some cold fronts more of the big fish will start pushing in. Tight Lines!
